Middle East means war even up to this day. While it is true that some countries in the region have been at war with each other for so long, majority of them remain civil. The Middle East is the birthplace of three leading religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The differences in beliefs led to frequent fighting between nations in the past. |
Europe's climate is a contrast of warm and cold. The continent covers more than 4 million square miles so it's not surprising that some parts overlap with that of Asia.
Western Europe isn't just about cobbled streets and ancient ruins. This side of the continent has always been at the center of fashion, art, and music. The old city of Rome in Italy, for example, teems of historical landmarks such as The Forum Romanum. The remains stand between the Capitol, the Coliseum, and the Palatine. |
Asia, the world's largest continent, covers 29.9% of the Earth's land area. Its 4 billion inhabitants account for 60% of the world's current total population, which also makes Asia the world's most populous continent. It is so large that it is divided into regions: Central Asia, East Asia, Middle East, Russia and the Caucasus, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. |
Up to this day there is confusion as to where the South Pacific is. But one thing's certain - it runs alongside the Pacific Ocean. That's why it is home to white beaches and vast coral reefs.
There is a strong British influence on countries like Australia and New Zealand. The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia is the biggest and the most diverse in the world. It also a great site for diving. There are day trips to the reef along the Queensland Coast. |

Music makes a good introduction for the Caribbean islands. Reggae and Latin music play across some 7000 islands. The language on these islands is also diverse: West African, French, Spanish, English, and a few native dialects. Many of the islands have been colonies of former empires. The region was named after the Carib, an Indian tribe that lived in some parts of South America and the Lesser Antilles. Caribbean people are called "West Indian" in the United Kingdom. |
Central America may seem to be dwarfed by its neighboring continent and countries. Nevertheless, its cultural diversity and beautiful destinations will rival any other place. It is made up of seven small tropical countries which are Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Mexico sometimes gets into the mix because of its language and the Mayan/Spanish heritage that is similar to the countries in Central America.

South America is bigger than North America and is certainly more surreal. It has some of the world's biggest natural attractions like the Amazon River, the Andes mountain range, and a number of the world's most mysterious structures like the Nazca Lines and the Machu Pichu ruins. Tourists flock to Brasilia for the Carnival. It is a festival that is held four days before the Lent. The songs and dance are a mixture of African and native influences. |
North America is the world's third largest continent. It lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and is found above South America. Canada and the United States are the best counties to visit in North America any time of the year. And the best time to go to the city that never sleeps is during spring and fall. New York is the city for those who dream big. It is a city of contrasts: while it is home to the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art and Broadway, its streets also spit up panhandlers and performance artists. For local transport, you can ride buses and trams, the train, and the subway.

Costa Rica is one of the many countries in Central America. It constitutionally abolished its army as far back as 1949 and it is one of the first carbon neutral countries in the world. It has Nicaragua to its north and Panama to its east and south, and the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea form its coastal borders. The name translates as the 'Rich Coast' and it is reputed to be the greenest country in the world. Though it is a very small country in size, it is home to 4% of the world's total species, with over 400 bird species and over 100 mammals. It is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. Costa Rica has oil deposits off its coast in the Caribbean Sea, but has elected not to develop them. Its mountainous terrain and rainfall have allowed it to set up a number of hydroelectric plants, which make it self sufficient in electricity, and this source of power is largely non-polluting.
